Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Manila - Final Scenes. DESCRIPTION: The re-capture of Manila was not effected without large areas of the city being devastated. Thousands of Filipinos were left homeless, they appeared with pitiful possessions looking for food and shelter. General MacArthur who led the fight against the Japanese invasion, now returns in triumph. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Aerial shots - pan of devasted city. American infantry & tanks fight way through what was once a baseball field, tanks fire at grandstands, infantry rush across field. American artillery firing at centre of city. Shells burst on buildings other side of river, Pasig River. Americans cross river on raft, various shots of Yanks in battle, advancing, at the Spanish city wall, called "Intramuros". Yanks pass through breach in wall. Street fighting, sniping, Americans fire from windows, shot of statue in middle of road. Filipinos cross pontoon bridge, refugees. CU types. CU Filipino, who had been buried alive. General MacArthur hands over government to President Osmena, interior shots, MacArthur speaks on "behalf of my Government etc." Shots of US flag being hoisted at masthead.
