Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: With the Guards. DESCRIPTION: The Dutch flag again flies over Enschede, 50 miles north east of Arnhem, was liberated by part of the Guard’s Armoured Division. Tens of thousands of German prisoners are being taken by the day. Paul Wyand of Movietone visited one of the POW cages and recorded scenes as the prisoners entered. When the American Second Armoured Division captured Nordkirchen Castle they found it still occupied by Prince Arenburg and his wife. SHOTLIST: KS Tanks through streets. Dutch flags fly in streets of Enschede, Holland as Shermans manned by Armoured Guards Division carrying US Airborne troops, pass through streets. Flails also pass through. Crowds wave, cheer etc. (silent). On German roads small groups & individuals surrender, carrying anything white, various shots of hundreds of prisoners standing & seated. P Wyand: At POW camp, GV of camp, barbed wire to fore. Prisoners received, deloused, given days ration corned beef & biscuits, then interrogated by British Sergeant asking Unit. Company, Number etc. (with sound). Prisoners move about camp. GV Nordkirchen Castle, Dulmen, Westphalia, Prince Arenburg, who lives in castle, walks to camera with American officer. Group shot of Prince Arenburg, Duke of Croy & Prince’s wife, Princess Valerie Marie of Schleswig-Holstein. CU of above. Various shots of Churchills on move towards Munster, manned by 6th Guards Infantry Brigade, carrying 16th US Airborne troops. Pass through streets of Munster, through barricades, followed by Despatch Riders. CU tracks of Churchill. Churchills pass several burning houses. Aerial shot of Munster. Yanks in street fighting, sniping, etc. Finishing on Churchills through, carrying Americans, background burning houses. Tanks fire guns.
