Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Science Saves Lives. DESCRIPTION: Brilliant co-operation over a long period between Wing-Commander Wilbur Franks, scientists and engineers of the University of Toronto, and specialists of the Royal Canadian Air Force has countered the danger of pilots "blacking out" during power drives and high speed turns. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Shot of electrical equipment. Exterior shots (at Toronto). CU W/C Wilbur R Franks, inventor. Group shot of scientists & engineers of University, with Franks. Group shot of RCAF personnel who carried out research. Interior shots cockpit, in which pilot is put to test without "black-out" suit, he blacks-out after a few seconds (faints). Then tested with "black-out" suit, he answers all signals sent him, & does not black-out. The cockpit is made to revolve at a good speed. Cut-in shots of personnel recording effects on pilot. Another invention picking up human beings from ground, the plane does not land, tested first with a sheep, plane passes over, sheep is hurled into air. Sheep lifted out of plane, unhurt. Then tested with Lt Doster in slow motion & normal speed. Finishes on aerial shot of Lieutenant climbing into plane in mid-air.
