- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Paris Under the Crooked Cross. DESCRIPTION: During the occupation of Paris, cameraman Gaston Madru, hid a camera in a bicycle basket surrounded it with bottles and took these pictures. They show the places of entertainment which were reserved for German soldiers and life in the City. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Elevated shot of Paris. Parisian Cameraman Gaston Madru, places camera in cycle-basket, covers same with bottles, mounts cycle, rides off. Shots of him riding into camera. Shots of Paris streets, boulevards, avenues, etc. from Rue de Rivoli to Montmartre. Parisians queue for bread, shot of cinemas reserved for German troops only, also Todt Organisation. Elevated shots de L’Opera, also shots of German controlling traffic, mostly cycles. Horse racing at Longchamps, many German officers present, race in progress background. Ceremony at Invalides, attended by German officers also French present. Among them are de Brinon; Deat; de Chambrun. Shots of French Legion formed to fight Russians - paraded. Another ceremony at Unknown Warrior’s tomb. Afterwards riots in Champs Elysees. Laval with several High German officers, arrives in Paris. Elevated shots of German lorries on way to Normandy front. Cherbourg signpost. Also Red Cross ambulances through city. Light German tank in street burning. Parisians gathered round poster announcing liberation of Paris. Nazi flags fly on buildings.
