- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Belgium Greets Liberators. DESCRIPTION: The liberation of Brussels and a large part of Belgium followed the great news from Paris with incredible speed. Before fleeing the Germans had fired the Palais de Justice intent on destroying evidence, but much of the books and papers were saved. The people of Brussels took to the streets in celebration and there was quite an orgy of destruction of Boche flags and emblems. SHOTLIST: Cut story - KS. Crowds cheer British troops as they pass through city. Various shots of transport on roads, Sherman tanks despatch riders, out of camera. Lines of Sherman tank pass through city, & waving, cheering crowds. Prisoners brought in, Belgian women goes to hit one but is stopped by an American soldier. Elevated shots of town, with Army passing through, Belgian girls kiss British soldiers. Enthusiastic crowds in centre of city, fade to material of 1918, British cavalry & infantry march through city, headed by King George VI (then Duke of York) & King & Queen of the Belgians. This old material is not our property. Fade to Palais of Justice. Crowds line streets as Cromwells pass through, trucking shot of cheering & waving crowds. Various shots of burning Palais de Justice, civilians form chain & rescue the valuables from same, books etc. Armoured cars pass through city. British Brigadier shakes hands with Belgian Burgomaster, also kisses him on each cheek, then naturally many girls follow suit. Various shots of girls kissing, etc. another dances for the benefit of the camera. Various shots of crowds dancing in the streets, Belgian girls (many) mounted on Sherman tanks ride through streets, also on Jeeps etc. Various shots of very happy crowds to finish.
