Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: The Marshalls. DESCRIPTION: A Naval bombardment preceded the assault on Kwajalein Atoll. The fighting was fierce with the Americans taking many Japanese prisoners. The capture of the Marshall Islands moves the Allies one step nearer to Tokyo. SHOTLIST: Cut story - GV of LSTs in convoy. Daylight bombardment of islands. Night naval bombardment, shows heavy guns firing, silhouettes of guns & decks, including Stars & Stripes which is flown. The night bombardment is very good material. Daylight shots of LCIs approach beach. Various shots of the above. Tanks on beach American Marines advance over land, sniping, firing mortars, Marines wear patches on their backs for identification. Advance over fields, jungles etc. Dead Jap in tree, another runs, gets shot. Dynamiting pill-boxes. CU explosion. LS smoke from explosions & fires, flame-throwers finish off buildings. GV artillery fired. American officer speaks through mike, tells Jap in pillbox to surrender, Japs come out, various shots of surrendered Japs, also CU of types. Japs searched. Taken away on tractor. GV of US flag flying from highest point of island. General map of Pacific shows Marshalls, Japan, & Philippines. Mileage is indicated.
