- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Wake Island Gets a Blasting. DESCRIPTION: American bombers take off from aircraft carriers in the Pacific to attack the Japanese base on Wake Island. Japanese shipping is also attacked. The Americans lose thirteen planes but only one pilot. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Grumman Hellcat in flight. GS on deck on carrier, various at sides of ship, one being towed along deck; it has its wings folded up. Bombs being pushed along deck. Aerial shot of formation of Grumman Hellcats in flight. Map of Pacific Islands (battle area), pointer picks out Wake Island (very good map). Several aerial shots of Wake Island looking through the clouds. Line of ships under way below, appear to be firing their guns at Wake Island. LS aerial of Hellcats firing their tracers at Japanese ships & registering direct hits. Planes firing at enemy airfields, tracers being fired at enemy planes & several blow up, one of our planes gets hit as it goes in to attack a ship. Various aerial combat shots. Smoke rising from fires caused on the island, in fore muzzles of machine guns projecting from plane. Hellcat (damaged) lands on deck of carrier without mishap.
