- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Eighth Army Presses On. DESCRIPTION: The latest despatches from Tunisia, firstly show General Freyberg’s victorious column advancing towards El Hamma. The Army drove on to Gabes and as tanks neared the sea men took the opportunity to wash away the dirt and dust of the desert. General Eisenhower flew to Gabes where he met General Montgomery. The people of Gabes gave the Highland Division a great welcome as they marched in. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Various shots of Sherman & Crusader tanks advancing through desert (General Freyberg’s). Tanks guns firing, various shots, pan of captured booty, guns, vehicles etc. Groups of prisoners pass over plains. Sherman tank passes through El Hamma, angle shots of transport crossing ford made by Engineers, Italian prisoners look on. Various shots of our troops bathing in stream. CU feet rising above water. Various shots of transport on move across desert, tank on beach, soldiers with towels wrapped round them jump off, run into sea, group of three seated on beach, MS & GS & CU of girl in bathing costume & sunshade, soldiers run in her direction, by the time they get there she has disappeared. LS of Sherman tanks moving along road. Italian & German prisoners along road, Eighth Army meets American, lorries up to one another, many embraces. CU handshake, exchange of cigarettes. Lorry with British pass Yanks walking in opposite direction, various gestures of welcome, camera pans with lorry. Army Reccy plane lands, Eisenhower out, MS of same, shaking hands with Monty. CU of both; Giraud along lane, shakes hands with Monty. CU both. LS of Gabes, transport along road. Highland Division march through Gabes, playing bagpipes, crowds on sidewalk, soldiers in & out of camera, GS of Monty surrounded by crowds being handed bunches of flowers, look down shot getting into car, crowds applauding, car off fade to Sherman tank moving over desert, & sun setting behind.
