Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Kikiyus (East African Troops) Visit Battleship, & Kikiyu Chief Aircraft Carrier. DESCRIPTION: A break from Naval warfare for the crew of an American aircraft carrier. SHOTLIST: Troops paraded on shore, motor launch approaching battleship, coming up companion ladder, being escorted round ship, looking at the heavy guns, group shot of native troops. Two English register surprise at East African soldiers being aboard ship. Waving farewell as launch leaves ship. Eight Kikiyu Chiefs (in native dress) ancient & modern - in khaki; first time they have been aboard a warship of any kind. Puffing up companion ladder being introduced to Captain & Chief Officers (unnamed) on narrow part of deck. Enter chart room, look at various charts. Looking at pom-poms being trained on imaginary plane. Coming up torpedo lift to flight deck. Going down plane elevator. Chatting to Captain on quarter deck, few CUs of same. Going down companion ladder to launch. Over camera officers & sailors waving farewell. Cut story - GS of battleship, troops come aboard, salute; shown round ship, inspect large guns, GS of same. Chiefs on carrier on quarter deck, pom-poms trained on imaginary target; coming up & going down in plane & torpedo elevator. Up companion ladder. Leaving carrier in motor launch. This battleship may be the ‘Warspite’.
