Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Aussies Clear New Guinea. DESCRIPTION: Allies success in New Guinea has not been won without immense effort and very hard fighting. The RAAF play a large part in the victory at Mile Bay. New film from Owen Stanley shows the problems of jungle warfare. SHOTLIST: Cut story - Soldiers marching over forestry country. Shots of ship at quay, unload equipment, Bren gunner on quay at the ready, Jeep drives off. Troops through jungle into camera, through mud, bogged paths etc. several angles. Shots of enemy landing barges, several close-ups showing cannon hits. Inland enemy tank knocked out; then shots of two-toed climbing shoes, bullet proof waistcoat, with metal shield, respirator, tin helmet placed on skull of man. Kittyhawk with two of land crew sitting on wings, as it taxies across jungle surrounded aerodrome, various angle shots. CU Pilot Officer Truscott, Kittyhawk takes off, mix to map of New Guinea, mix to troops through jungle, soldier in observation post up in trees. Aussies pulling heavy artillery through jungle, bogged with rain, by means of rope. Majority are stripped to waist. Plane low over trees dropping mail etc. on camp. Troops through jungle carry 60lbs each. CU Corporal Bromwich. Down mountain path, Owen Stanley in background, Jap prisoner with escort, being assisted, another Jap stretcher case, left to die by their comrades. CU of same. In cut story - Shot of Squadron Leaders Jackson & Truscott. At the beginning the ship that is being unloaded has been sunk by Jap cruiser (beached).
