Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Thanksgiving Day. DESCRIPTION: America’s Thanksgiving Day was with a Service in Westminster Abbey and a Parade through the streets of Plymouth. At an USAAF Base the men entertained two hundred local children with a Thanksgiving Day Party. SHOTLIST: Cut story. Commences with shot of Abbey tower, pan down to entrance then up to another tower where the US Flag is flying. Yanks marching along street & entering Westminster Abbey. Admiral Stark & other Naval officers arriving by car (walk into camera). Elevated interior shot of congregation, rather dull, procession walking down aisle, led by Dean, followed by flag bearer last in the procession came Mr Winant. Mr Winant & Mr Biddle leaving Abbey together, getting into car. Shot of organist playing. Boston - Army lorries arrive at destination, kids being assisted by US troops in getting off vans. Interior shots of kids finding their places at tables, eating various shots. Child seated on soldiers knee, child is being fed by soldier. Various shots showing chefs issuing food to soldiers for children. Plymouth - Elevated shot of Plymouth front showing parade, US & Union Jack flying side by side. Royal Marines band leading procession through streets, cut-in of blitzed buildings, Yanks following camera along streets, cut-in again of blitzed buildings. Cuts (Can 6538) - Deputy Mayor (WJW Modley ?) & Lady Astor (Lady Mayoress at Mayflower Stone), band commences to play US & British National Anthems, in parade are US troops, British Navy & Army, Royal Australian Air Force; Canadian Fire Fighters for Britain, standing at the salute, ships can be seen in background. Lady Astor speaking, behind her is Deputy Mayor & Colonel Thrasher US. Sailors & soldiers talking among themselves. Various shots of procession. Entering church. GS of Canadian Fire Fighters for Great Britain. Various shots of crowds watching procession. Procession entering Bedford Street. GS of Church. London - Various angle shots of troops (US) entering Abbey; GS of parade outside Abbey waiting their turn to enter, traffic continues as usual. US troops entering Abbey, cameramen taking photos etc. MS of Porchway. Several policemen marching past Abbey, in line, presumably going on or off duty. Yanks walking round Abbey grounds. Shot of crowds taking from side of horses legs. Army trucks passing Abbey & entering Dean’s Walk. Yanks leaving Abbey, NFS entering Abbey. CU Yanks saluting. Lord Louis Mountbatten arriving at Abbey. Lord Portal & Air Marshal Harris arriving. Interior shots of Abbey, troops singing, praying. Boston - Exterior pan of cathedral & GS of same. Yank with wreath laying same on war memorial (interior) GS. Yank standing by wreath, pan up to list of killed. CU Wreath. Interior shot of hall showing toasts being suggested. Major Marsh (US) helping kids off van. Colonel Bailey helping child into her seat. Kids singing while officer endeavours to conduct. Plymouth - Leaving church, mace bearer, preceded by police. Salvation Army band playing & in procession, next switch to Marines band playing with Salvation Army standing aside to let procession through. SA’s band are flat. ATC nurses were in procession.
