MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Rubber & Tea Industry B291/D2/1. DESCRIPTION: Ceylon is now producing a large amount of our tea ration with hundreds of millions of pounds a year. It has also increased its rubber production by threefold. SHOTLIST: Native women carrying baskets of tea on their shoulders, along edge of tea plantation. CU Natives. Tea being weighed, then thrown on the ground in a heap. More CUs of women natives. LS Tea plantation women picking tea. CU Ditto. Natives filing out across plantation to rubber trees. CU Native tapping tree. CU Small bowl being fixed to tree to catch latex. 2 scenes. Native with bucket collecting latex. Children running up steps to house at top, pass native women on way out. Women whom children pass are carrying buckets of latex. Following is interior - MS of latex being poured into metal trays to solidify. CU Native skimming latex. Solid raw rubber going through rollers & transformed into crepe. CU Same. Rubber on long tables, being cut into pieces by natives. Rubber being weighed. CU End interior. Britisher standing round tree. Do. grafting bud into tree. CU same. CU Cutting bud from one plant, splitting other tree open slightly placing bud in, then winding same up with adhesive tape. CU Bud grafted tree after four months. LS Bud grafting plantation. Bud grafting tree is protected by a basket, which you see a fellow take off, for you to see tree, then replace. Canadian Flying Boat Squadron - B291/D2/2 - CARD 42925 Crew leaving hut, glance at notices pinned on wall outside. Squadron walking across fields, to quay, along which they walk, get into a rowboat, and out to a Catalina lying in mid-stream, coastline background. Squadron climbing aboard. Interior shots of crew as they climb into plane CU as they pass camera. MS of crew turning propellers. One engine running. Catalina taxiing across water, background coast - 2 shots. CU Pilot in cockpit - 3 angles. Interior shots of crew at posts. Interior Looking forward, back view of pilot. CU Wireless operator. Building Aerodromes - B291/D2/2 - CARD 42927 Bulldozer going through forest of trees, pushing same over as it goes, including undergrowth. CU Tree that is rather obstinate, bulldozer has several attempts before it eventually pushes it over. Various angle shots of above. Natives armed with axes chopping down large trees. Bulldozer knocking over more trees. Natives digging over the earth after it has been cleared of trees, undergrowth etc. LS of airfield to be. Elephants being driven through maze of trees. Elephant with his feet on a tree. Elephant picking up a tree in its trunk, walking over to heap of others and throwing same on top. CU Tree in elephants trunk. Two elephants at work on trees.
