Summary
MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: French Bastille Day Celebrations in London. DESCRIPTION: Bastille Day is celebrated in London with General de Gaulle leading the Free French. SHOTLIST: General de Gaulle lays a wreath on the Memorial of Marshal Foch at Victoria. Many officers are present, including Admiral Stark and Lt General Eisenhower. Then there is a parade inspected by the Fighting French General and the two Americans, who were at the Foch Memorial. General de Gaulle, then presents the Croix de Liberation to First Lt Laurent of the French Navy. Then he presents other medals, including Medaille Militaire and Croix Guerre, before taking the salute at the march past. This is the first occasion in which the French have been called the Fighting French. One shoulder flash of a French Soldier’s tunic bearing the word ‘Commando’. French ATS girls also took part in the ceremony. Crowd shots.
