- Summary
- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Moving Fighting Command Squadron. DESCRIPTION: Fighter squadrons are frequently moved about the country from station to station. The moves involve a great deal of organisation, the pilots fly their own planes and the ground crews travel in aircraft once used as troops carriers. SHOTLIST: Squadrons are moved about from time to time after taking part in escorting bombers on Offensive Sweeps over France and they are sent to less busy areas for rest. They are moved around the coast to strategic positions, to keep guard over convoys. The ground crews also accompany the pilots. The night before they are due to move, personal belongings are packed, which are sent by road. An inspection of everything is carried out to see that not superfluous material is carried in the planes. Even the weight of each individual man is calculated. There is a picture of a dog being lifted into a plane and also a shot of questionable pictures being taken down, rolled up and packed. The planes in this story were: Supermarine Spitfires, and Handley Page Harrows.
