- MOVIETONE CARD TITLE: Malaya Defended. DESCRIPTION: Reports from Malaya spoke of heavy fighting and Japan gaining ground. In Singapore, the last Japanese to leave got away just before hostilities began. SHOTLIST: Gurkhas deploy through streams in rubber plantations. A gurkha with a trench-mortar uses his khukri to cut down the undergrowth. In Singapore, Japanese are searched before leaving on the liner "Asama Maru". Women and children leave too. A troopship arrives and the men disembark to the strains of a military band.
