Summary
For the first time a reigning Pontiff set foot on African soil. The Pope was in Uganda on serious business. Uppermost in his mind was the civil war between Nigeria and Biafra. He celebrated an "all African" mass and dedicated a shrine to African Martyrs. The troubled soil of the continent received the Papal Blessing. But the mission of peace was unfulfilled.
