Summary
Thankfully a city of peace on Olympic opening day. Some 8,000 athletes and officials packed the centre of the arena as the Olympic Flag was escorted to the place where it would fly during the following two weeks. The Eternal Flame entered the vast stadium, the doves were released. All was well in Mexico, the city of 1968.
