Summary
Men of the American 17th Armoured Division are given a lift in Churchill tanks of the Grenadier Guards Armoured Brigade, after the link up for the thrust into Bocholt, Munster and Bremen. Men of a Welsh Regiment share in the joint drive to seal off the whole of northern Holland. As allied columns go forward, German prisoners move in the opposite direction. As the enemy retires eastward, the RAF attack daily. At Munster the German commander rejected an Allied demand for his surrender and the price paid was total defeat for the destruction of the city. But it proved a tough nut to crack and resistance was heavy. On entering the city the troops walk past burning buildings and bodies of members of the ‘Volksturm’ lying in streets. (This long awaited sweep cut off the rocket and flying bomb sites in Holland which had menaced south England for so long).
