Summary
The King begins five day visit of France and Belgium. Greeted at an aerodrome in Holland by Field Marshal Montgomery, Air Marshal Sir Arthur Coningham and Air Vice Marshal Broadhurst, the King in a jeep then drives between ranks of RAF personnel. As the guest of Field Marshal Montgomery the King stayed in his caravan and is seen with Monty looking at wall map. The King drives to the HQ of the British Second Army where he meets the C-in-C and General Dempsey. Visiting the 1st Canadian Army HQ he attends open-air ceremony where he awards decorates [sic] and makes Lieutenant General Simmonds a CB. Also present was Prince Charles, Regent of Belgium. The following day he holds an investiture and knights Lieutenant General Miles Dempsey. Owing to rough weather the King was unable to return home by air and is seen being piped aboard HMS Garth and on the bridge dressed in oil skins.
