This site gives a fascinating glimpse into life in Austria in 1938, seen from the perspective of fifty ‘ephemeral’ films selected from the collections of the Austrian Film Museum, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute. These films - amateur, educational, industrial, scientific - act as a corrective to the official film record (mainly Nazi propaganda films) and give an insight into daily life in prewar Austria, depicting the vibrant Jewish community, the turmoil of the Anschluss and the persecution of the Jews which followed the Nazis’ takeover.

This database is the result of a project at the University of Hildesheim, Germany to study how interaction between people from different cultures has been portrayed in film and television. The website consists of a list of around 150 films, with brief synopsis and credits and then a selection of scenes which have been analysed according to a prescribed list of criteria, such as ‘affectivity’, ‘formality’ and ‘proxemics (space and distance orientation)'. One of the programmes analysed according to these criteria is the British television sitcom ''Allo ‘Allo!' which looks at the depiction and interaction of German, French and English stereotypes.

Launched in 2015, this resource is the largest single source of information on films produced in and about the Caribbean, featuring information on more than 500 films from the English, Dutch, French and Spanish-speaking Caribbean. Entries feature, synopsis, production details, brief credits and cast information and most are accompanied by excerpts or trailers. The focus is on contemporary film, so most of the films are post-2000 but a Classic Films section includes films reflecting the region’s rich cinematic history, from well-known titles like The Harder They Come to less widely recognised examples such as Haïti, le chemin de la liberté, the first Haitian feature film. The database features examples from the Caribbean diaspora, so films set in the UK, such as Babylon also feature. A section on Caribbean Women in Film highlights the work of female directors and a there are also links to information about film festivals, film schools and a bibliography.

Film site primarily devoted to a list of the 1,000 greatest films created from an aggregation of nearly seven hundred individual film polls from journals, magazines and websites, including Sight and Sound, Empire, Facets, Positif, and The Village Voice. The site also includes the no less extensive but more narrowly focused list of the 21st century’s most acclaimed films, and a growing set of director profiles.

The site’s other resource - 1000 noir films is currently a work in progress: beginning with a list of the most 100 frequently cited film noirs, and then gradually adding a further 900 films noir (or films with prominent noir elements). The enterprise (modestly described as ‘hobby-driven’) is the creation of Bill Georgaris and his partner Vicki Platt, who are based in Adelaide, Australia.

This project aims to recreate a lost feature film from the silent era using surviving clues and documents, including the surviving musical score, contemporary press reviews and other films from the same production company, Vitagraph Studios. It is not clear from the site if the project is still current but video interviews with the project’s originators give an interesting insight into the genesis of the venture - which began with the chance discovery of the film’s score in a junkshop - and its methodology.
