Engineer Mahdi Sadaghdar’s short video experiments explain electronics in a fun and entertaining way. The videos cover basic and pragmatical aspects of working with electricity such as How to Make Proper Wire Connections, How 3D Printing Works and Definition of Voltage and Current. New and older video-tutorials can be accessed via the home page of his website, where each experiment is accompanied by a written explanation which sometimes includes figures and graphics. His YouTube channel recently reached 2 million subscribers and he celebrated this with the video Changing Signal into Pulses, where he designs a circuit to make his Telsacoil produce sounds with his voice.

Launched in 2007, The Do Lectures project aims to ‘create a safe space to ask better questions’. The event runs for three days once a year and is hosted on an old farm in Cardigan, West Wales. The talks are filmed and then made available for free. Set up by The James Dyson Foundation, the award operates in 27 countries, and is open to university level students and recent graduates studying product design, industrial design and engineering. It recognises and rewards imaginative design solutions to global problems with the environment in mind. The Awards website includes short videos of this year’s entries and past winners with demonstrations of how the actual product works. Amongst the 2018 winners are: kitchenware for the blind, a prosthetic leg system, furniture for flooding, a semi-automatic Malaria diagnosis device and a wheelchair for air journeys.

Cosmic Shambles creates and curates entertaining content about the universe through science, art, history, philosophy, music, literature and comedy. The site was borne out of The Incomplete Map of Cosmic Genome, Utter Shambles and Book Shambles online magazines. A selection of the content from them is now available for free via Cosmic Shambles, but to access the entire back catalogue, which includes over 160 films, exclusive interviews and contributions from 150 well-known names in science, a paid subscription is needed. The free content in the Cosmic Shambles site is presented in the form of podcasts, documentaries, interviews and several blogs. The range of subjects covered is impressive. For example, neuroscientist Dr Dean Burnett explains differences in taste (why some of us love jazz and other hate it?); the life and work of physicist Richard Feynman is celebrated in the documentary All Genius, All Buffoon: 100 Years of Richard Feynman; there is also an in-depth interview with plastic surgeon Fiona Wood who invented the ‘spray on skin’ for burns victims.

A free online platform designed to provide advanced researchers with the open climate data, visualizations and resources they need to gather insights on national and global progress on climate change. The platform, managed by the World Resource Institute, brings together dozens of datasets for the first time and allows users to analyse and compare the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) under the Paris Agreement, access historical emissions data, discover how countries can leverage their climate goals to achieve their sustainable development objectives, and use models to map new pathways to a lower carbon. The site can be searched by Countries, Economic sector, Nationally Determined Contribution, Global Historical Gas Emissions and Future Scenarios, where users can model projections of emissions.
