At the end of 2011 the Royal Institution launched the Ri channel, a website giving on-demand access to the very best science videos from the Ri and around the web. Alongside highlights from recent Ri events, including the Christmas Lectures, the Channel features re-digitised footage from the Ri archive and a range of high-quality videos from filmmakers and scientific institutions across the UK and beyond. New videos are added regularly. The collection is now organised under four categories: Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics. There is also an Interactive Games section which offers a wide range of educational games and quizzes to learn more about science, engineering and the natural world.

ScienceStage.com has the stated aim of being "the universal online portal for science, advanced teaching, and research’. It allows scientists, lecturers, academics, students, and practitioners from all fields to present and share ideas and findings through video streaming, audio streaming, and text documents, and to make use of community functions such as chat, email, and blogs. Video and audio clips - lectures, interviews and documentaries - come from a wide variety of sources and are accessible for free streaming via a good subject index, although very prominent advertising is at times a distraction.

This is a degree project developed by Frederic Brodbeck at the Royal Academy of Art (KABK) in The Netherlands. It aims to create a visual ‘finger print’ of a movie by representing through an animation such information as the editing structure, colour, speech or motion which are extracted, analysed and then re-presented. The brief sampler available online compares such diverse movie experiences as Kubrick’s version of The Shining and some unspecified porn films. The code used is available through the site.

The complete archive of BBC/OU programmes broadcast on Radio 4 from 2003 onwards is permanently available on the More or Less series website. Each programme takes one or two topical news items and analyses the relevant data from a mathematical point of view, looking at the statistics behind the issues and the claims made about them. As usual, more recent programmes in the series are also available via the BBC i-player or as podcasts.

To celebrate the range of scientific issues discussed during the Royal Society’s 350th anniversary year the Science Sees Further website has been set up. It offers all those interested in science an opportunity to look at the key scientific issues of today, and those of tomorrow. The site is arranged in 12 chapters based on the subjects of the year’s discussion meetings - the ageing process, biological diversity, cognition and computation, cultural diversity, extra-terrestrial life, geoengineering, global sustainability, greenhouse gases, new vaccines, stem cell biology, uncertainty in science, and web science. Each section comprises an attractive subject summary (authored by the meeting organisers), short historical context using material from the Society’s Centre for History of Science, as well as interactive audio and video material.

The website accompanying the BBC Radio 4 series In Our Time, in which Melvyn Bragg and guests discuss the history of ideas, has been redesigned, and the Archive section now makes every episode broadcast since the series began in 1998 available to listen to again via RealPlayer. Programmes are searchable by title, genre (culture, history, philosophy, religion, science) and by era, from prehistoric to 20th century. Recent programmes are available as podcasts, and an e-mail newsletter gives Melvyn Bragg’s personal insight into the latest programme.
