The CAIN (Conflict Archive on the InterNet) website, located at the University of Ulster, contains information and source material on ‘the Troubles’ and politics in Northern Ireland from 1968 to the present. There is also some material on society in the region and a selection of digitised records from the National Archives of Ireland and the Public Record Office of Northern Ireland. The main sections are: Background to the Conflict; Key Events; Key Issues, Databases and Bibliographies, Northern Ireland Society and Conflict Studies. The films section lists films with ‘the Troubles’ as the theme. There is also video footage of a selection of Physical Memorials in public spaces. The videos contain no commentary and provide enough detail for users to be able to read inscriptions.

The European Children’s Film Network is a database service offered by ECFA (European Children’s Film Association). The databases are intended as sources of information on European high-quality films for children and young people in order to help to improve their distribution and the marketing. The website was started in 1999, covering most films for children that were produced in European countries since that year, including some films that were produced a few years earlier, but appeared at festivals or in distributions in 1999 or later. The database gives title (and titles in other languages), production country, running time, director, synopsis and festivals where it has been screened.

The BCDB project began in 1996 as a list of Disney animated features on creator Dave Koch’s personal computer. In response to increasing interest in the material, the DataBase went online in 1998 as a searchable resource dedicated to compiling information about cartoons, including production details such as voice actors, producers, and directors, as well as plot summaries and user reviews. Other features include news items related to the animation industry and an image gallery, which allows users to see images of various cartoon characters taken from popular films. Many films are streamed on the site.

Your Paintings is a website developed by the BBC and the Public Catalogue Foundation (known now as Art UK) to create a complete record of the United Kingdom’s national collection of oil, tempera and acrylic paintings and make this accessible to the public. The site can be searched by artist, by gallery or other institution, and by what’s in a painting, for example the subject of a portrait, places depicted, or objects such as trees and houses. The subject access is somewhat unwieldy to use and often brings up very large numbers of ‘hits’. The quality of the images is generally excellent and displayed alongside details of the gallery where it can be seen. To support the project for schools the site offers a range of online resources including: slideshows of paintings with ideas for use in the classroom; profiles of careers in the art world; and a guide to artistic styles and movements.

MAVISE is a database edited and published by the European Audiovisual Observatory listing tv and on-demand audiovisual companies and services in Europe. As of August 2017 there are 42 national TV markets, over 12,000 television channels, and 1,200 on-demand audiovisual services, 9,100 companies (broadcasters, packagers, transmitters).
The main aims of MAVISE are to provide better knowledge of the audiovisual market and more transparency, essential if the market is to operate properly and to ensure the laws governing it are relevant. MAVISE enables the European Audiovisual Observatory to provide the audiovisual industry, institutional decision-makers, and the general public with all the information they need about developments affecting the European market for television and on-demand audiovisual services even more regularly and efficiently than before. Companies in the audiovisual sector may also benefit considerably from this project.
A drawback is that the text on the site is set in too small a font size and thus difficult to read.
