GEOSET (Global Educational Outreach for Science, Engineering and Technology) is a freely accessible, searchable internet gateway to a selection of SET and related educational materials. Most of the videos take the form of ‘concept modules’ - rather than whole lectures or courses - focused on specific topics, in the form of split-screen presentations, in which the video of the presenter is in one window and the educational material synchronised and presented in a second window. GEOSET also links to other major sources of educational material such as at the Vega archive site and the Royal Society. Users can filter by age suitability, type of video, and subject.

This YouTube site features videos provided by Newcastle University Medical School which were originally intended for psychiatry students but are potentially useful for anyone interested in the subject. The videos are sub-divided according to category. Psychopathology features videos which are designed to illustrate particular psychopathological signs; the videos in Disorders illustrate a variety of psychiatric disorders. The Historical section features John Huston’s film ‘Let There Be Light’ (1946), which was filmed while Huston was working with the U.S. Army Photographic Unit during World War II. Huston’s film, which depicted the effects and treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder, was pulled from circulation due to what was seen as its potential demoralising effect on new recruits, and not released for nearly thirty-five years. The videos use role players to portray the patients and are posted subject to Creative Commons Attribution-Non-Commercial 2.0 UK: England & Wales licensing.

This series of lectures was given by Professor Jan Schnupp in summer 2011 as part of a ten week evening class organized by the Oxford University Department of Continuing Education. The lectures aim to introduce the fundamentals of neuroscience to a lay audience and assume no scientific prior knowledge on the part of the viewer. The lectures begin simply, with basic information about neurons and nerve cells, but work up to quite advanced topics, as Professor Schnupp discusses the neuroscience behind vision, hearing, spatial awareness, memory, decision-making, motor disorders, and addiction. Some of lectures are accompanied by summaries and Powerpoint slides.

This website, from the DIPex health education charity, presents videos of patients’ experiences of illness and other health-related matters, in order to help other people make informed decisions about seeking advice and treatment, to help them and their families cope and to provide a patients’ perspective to doctors, nurse and other healthcare professionals. The site is large, with over 25,000 video clips of people talking about over 75 different health issues, but its layout makes navigation easy.
A section on Learning and Teaching offers guidance on how to use the resource in education, with case studies, and examples of how to apply the resources in various curricula, including PSHE (Personal, Social and Health Education), Religious Education, Psychology, Health and Social Care, as well as Medicine, where the videos can be used to teach students about the patient’s perspective.
