Summary
US carrier "Hornet" at sea carrying the 16 bombers which are to raid Tokyo. She comes under fire from Japanese raiders when she and her escort are spotted by an enemy patrol. The Japanese vessel is sunk and survivors picked up. On board the Hornet is General Doolittle who is in one of the first planes to take off on the raid. Tokyo comes under blitz from the American bombers and a flashback to ARP practice in Tokyo shows them to be rather disorganised. In China, American pilots who have bailed out over that country receive medals from Madame Chiang [Kai Shek]. One of the pilots tells of his lost comrades who did not return from the raid and says "If there’s any way to get even we are going to try". (It was later learned that those who were captured in Japan were murdered). [This section PICTURE & TRACK NEGATIVES] News comes in from the Aleutians of fierce fighting. The Japanese on Kiska and Attu are being plagued by American aircraft. [This section PICTURE & TRACK NEGATIVES (MUSIC BACKGROUND & SYNC)]
