- Summary
- Word is received that a Japanese armada was heading towards New Guinea. The convoy began moving in on Lae and Salamaua during a tropical storm, and when it lifted the fleet was spotted. The allied air command snapped into action. In an RAAF (Royal Australian Air Force) Operations Room well laid plans for a co-ordinated attack were brought into play. At the word "scramble" Australian and American crews raced to their planes. Over the area the first wave of bombers is already catching enemy fire, but one by one the vessels are written off. Although it’s a two day job to sink the lot, 22 enemy ships their crews and 15,000 Japanese soldiers perish in the holocaust. US and Australian pilots discuss the raid. (SOF).
