Summary
Cameraman Damien Parer talks over beginning of story on the jungle warfare being fought by Australian troops at Kokoda, New Guinea, against the Japanese. He says not to underestimate the Jap, he’s a highly trained soldier. Scenes of Australian soldiers in jungle undergrowth. Aircraft flying over drop medical supplies, etc. The men eat their meal before making their way again to try to contact the enemy. Parer with camera goes with them. The troops come across a native hut which is believed to have been used by the enemy, they run up to it and fire bren gun. After six weeks in the jungle the men come out for a rest, their wounded being carried on stretchers by native bush-boys. Story ends with Parer speaking to Australian people and saying if only they would realise that their country was in peril they might forget the trivial things and get on with the job of licking the Japanese.
