- Summary
- The great offensive in Egypt and Libya has taken toll of Rommel’s army and after several days of heavy fighting the Afrika Corps began to crumble. Montgomery ordered a general advance along a 40-mile line. Objectives were gained at the appointed time; dominating positions captured and then the British armoured divisions went forward. Too late, Rommel realised he had been outmanoeuvred. The boldness of a seemingly impossible frontal attack has taken the Afrika Corps off its balance.
