Summary
World’s finest tennis players meet on the famous Centre Court. Miss Scriven, in the women’s first big match, beat Mlle Sigart the Belgian champion without losing a set. 7-5, 7-5. But the biggest sensation was downfall of Fred Perry, England’s No 1, toppled by Norman Farquarson of South Africa. 7-5, 6-1, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4. E Meier (Spain), provided first thrill by only just failing to beat the redoubtable Australian John Crawford. 7-5, 6-4, 2-6, 3-6, 6-4.
