World’s largest shaft of marble - 60 ft long weighing 250 tons - reaches Rome, towed by 7 towboats up historic River Tiber to the great forum, erected by nation to Il Duce. A year ago, the titanic task of lowering it from top of mountain quarry 2,600 ft high, was started ... then, 80 oxen dragged it the 9 mile journey to the sea ... Beneath the shadow of St Peter’s - the end of a wonderful journey.
