Summary
The March of Time synopsis: At Princeton, as at hundreds of American Universities and Colleges to-day, the 1937 undergraduate is much more aware than was his father of the world outside. These youths will have the job of fighting the next war. Marching across the world’s front pages they see the armed forces of Europe and Asia, hear in new terms the old story of 1914. One day, recently, to three Princeton undergraduates came the idea of prepaid patriotism, of a bonus now before they fight. Next morning Princeton woke to a new sensation which 24 hours later was nation-wide. Students everywhere rallied to the new cause - The Veterans of Future Wars. Soon 50 colleges had organized. In Washington appears a new kind of lobbyist to buttonhole politicians. Veterans and bonus advocates are amazed: some strike back. As the idea behind the travestu shifts and broadens, the undergraduate prank takes on a deeper significance. With 20,000 members already enrolled and 144 branches in existence, "March of Time" shows the Veterans of Future Wars as a new youth movement, potentially capable of killing, through ridicule, many a jingo idea that to-day menaces the peace of the world.
