Summary
Rhodesian Spotlight Commentary - The fight between Tiberio Mitri, ex-middleweight champion of Europe, and Jimmy Elliott, ex-middleweight champion of South Africa, starts on a tentative note in Salisbury. Mitri was the more aggressive, but the South African was more effective in the close range work that occupied much of the fight. The Italian’s attacks were sporadic, but Jimmy Elliott is always a cool and effective boxer and dictated most of the fight both at long distance and in fighting. Both were clever boxers but in the closing stages, Jimmy Elliott’s punching was more effective. As so often happens when two boxers meet, it was a fight for the connoisseur rather than the spectacular affair that fight fans really cherish. However, at the end of the match Jimmy Elliott was declared a clear winner on points - a well merited decision that brought great jubilation.
