Summary
BFI synopsis: A film following what happens to tea, from the time it is landed at the London docks until it reaches the domestic teapot. Scenes at London’s tea wharves are shown, with tea chests going to the warehouses on conveyor belts. Tea tasters are also shown, and some of the crockery and tea-cups used, both modern plastic and older porcelain cups, is looked at. The film shows, too, a new automatic tea maker, for use in offices and factories, which prepares the tea with tea leaves and fresh milk. The cameras also film some of the different ways of making tea, and the different countries it comes from. Tea leaves are shown being blended together in a tea factory, and filled into packets that are then sealed. [Main locations included in the film are London (including Greenwich), Leeds, Birmingham, Stoke-on-Trent, Staffs., and Redbourn (near St. Albans, Herts].
