Summary
BP Summary - A brief introduction to the series with emphasis on the increasing world demand for oil and the importance of the Middle East in supplying this demand Abadan is shown with the refinery set in the midst of the vast and complex organisation which surrounds it.
NFA synopsis: Long shot of oil pipelines whilst commentary explains that ‘Oil Review’ is a screen magazine about oil - how it is obtained and how it is used. Map showing the Middle East, the main source of supply outside America. Map of Iran showing Adaban. Shots of London traffic, a farmer driving a tractor and an oil lamp being lighted whilst commentary emphasises that without oil, daily life would come to a standstill. A surveyor at work searching for new oil. Long shot of the oil refinery at Abadan, Iran. Shots of streets, housing estates, gardens, employees going to work, unskilled workers attend classes to learn to read and write. Technical training courses are provided, as are recreational facilities such as swimming baths. Panning shots over the refinery and the pipelines which bring the oil from the oil fields 200 miles away. Oil tankers in the harbour. Loading scenes tanker lorries distribute the oil. Shots of London trains, village road, ships and planes taking off showing the need for oil.
