- Summary
- BFI synopsis: a convalescent home for Warwickshire miners at Swanage.
NCB Commentary - On the coast at Swanage, Dorset, is Durlston Court, the Warwickshire Miners’ Convalescent Home.
Greeted by Union Secretary Pratt, here from all parts of the Warwickshire coal field come miners who are recuperating after an accident or sickness. Here, too, come old age pensioners in need of a rest or a change.
Started in 1947, with the assistance of the Mineworkers’ Pension Fund, the Convalescent Home offers peace and relaxation for 70 mners at a time.
Once they’ve signed in, the men are in good hands.
Every man receives a pound a week pocket money during his stay.
Many of the rooms command views over one of the loveliest bays on the south coast.
Warwickshire mineworkers regain their health and strength in pleasant surroundings.
Durslton Court’s own garden overlooks the sea and is well stocked for the idle scrounger.
The staff make time to partner the men at deck tennis or in the well-equipped games room.
Quieter relaxations are catered for too.
Fresh air, rest, and good food, are the key-notes of life at Durlston Court. - Keywords
