NCB Commentary - It’s Sunday evening at Ashington Colliery.
The pit is resting before the backshift takes over to start a new week.
Into the unaccustomed quiet of the pit-yard comes a solemn procession, for this is Rogation Sunday and mine-workers and their families join together in a short evening service, as they have done over the last several years, to ask God’s blessing on the industry and on the pit they serve. - Researcher Comments
