- BFI synopsis: London preview of N.C.B.'s travelling exhibition ‘Mining Today’
NCB Commentary - Hard by London’s Victoria Station the Coal Board’s big show moves into Town to take a bow.
This travelling exhibition, now to be seen for the first time by M.P.s and distinguished figures in the mining industry, has been designed to tour the coal fields to show both those in the industry and the general public what’s going on in British coalmining today.
Theme of the Exhibition is the part played by coal as Britain’s basic industry.
The story of an industry which employs nearly three quarters of a million men and women is unfolded in Stands covering ten main subjects.
Last minute touching up is carried out on some of the model exhibits which illustrate the thesis of how Britain’s coal industry operates.
Safety, research and medicine all have their placecs in an exhibition which will shortly set out on a nation-wide tour of mining centres.
At the opening of the private view, National Coal Board Chairman, James Bowman, was one of the earliest visitors. Heads of Coal Board departments joined with distinguished visitors, representing all sides of the power industry, in giving the Exhibition an official blessing before it goes on tour.
To mine workers and their families up and down the country the Exhibition, titled "Coalmining Today", should provide a graphic illustration of the facts behind the industry. - Researcher Comments
