Summary
BFI synopsis: training pit storekeepers at Bolsover.
NCB Commentary - Still at Bolsover but away from their own mines and back to school come a mixed bag of colliery storemen and trainees.
They’ve come to the Bolsover Trainind School to learn from the top brasses of the East Midland Division.
The Area Stores Manager takes personal charge of the course which is designed to keep men abreast of current developments in their trade.
Many students have taken up store-keeping after being injured. Others are newcomers to the industry.
Up till now store-keeping has been a Cinderella craft. The men who handle thousands of poundsworth of equipment in stores have often drifted into the job haphazard. The courses here at Bolsover will raise the status of the store-keeper.
From diagrams on a blackboard it’s a short step to practical experience of what the lecturer is talking about. When they get back from Bolsover these storekeepers will be equipped to put into practice modern methods at their own collieries.
