Summary
NoS Summary - a boy golf champion, who is a Newcastle N.C.B. employee.
BFI synopsis: Profile of John Liddle, sixteen-year-old golfer, seen at Prudhoe golf course.
NCB Commentary - Meet 16 year old John Liddle - up and coming golfer who’s already won the Charles Forster Cup (though he doesn’t look as if he really believed it was his) and who’s out for greater glories this year.
Practice is the secret, says John - and yet more practice. Son of a colliery worker at West Wylam, John himself works for the NCB in Newcastle, but on a Saturday afternoon, this is where you’ll find him, out on the Prudhoe Golf Course. Tee shots, approaches, putts - John polishes them all; that’s how he’s got his handicap down to seven already. He’s been round this course so often, yet there’s something different about it every time.
This year John’s going in for the Boys’ Championship of Great Britain, Right now, it’s time for home - but we’ll be waiting to hear more of him.
