British Pathe synopsis: "Yes, they actually sew boats together nowadays. To begin with strips of thin wood are planed and pieced together." M/S of man feeding a plank of wood through a machine with rollers. C/U of man cutting through a flat piece of wood. The strips of wood are stuck together, then weights are placed on top of them. "- and glued and sand-papered." M/S of four women standing at a bench working with the pieces of wood. The women all wear caps to keep their hair out of the way and overalls. M/S of a woman working on a machine smoothing out the wood. The machine moves too and fro. "Remember Sister Susie sewing shirts? Well, now she’s busy sewing boats - " L/S of a large piece of wood passing through an electric sewing machine device. C/U of the sewing tool. "Just a flat bottom put on the sewn hull...and our canoe goes afloat." M/S of three men working on the hull of the boat. L/S of the boat on the water being punted along.
