Summary
NoS Summary - amusing and bizarre contraptions used for perming and drying hair at the 1933 Swedish Exhibition
British Pathe synopsis: "The modern hairdresser must be a mechanic as well as an artist - judging by the variety of contrivances used in this Swedish exhibition." Unusual tracking shot of a line of women having perming curlers put into their hair by men in white coats. Closer shot of same - again moving. Another panning shot, this time showing women being attached to perming machines - metal clamps are attached to their curlers which in turn are attached to some kind of heating device by wires. Camera moves along a row of women having their perms. C/U of one woman attached to a machine. She smiles at the camera. C/U of another woman having the clamps attached. C/U of woman having her curlers taken out. Her hair is very curly. C/U of woman in an extraordinary hair drying device. It is made of shiny metal. Modernistic. "The glazed coiffure - fashion’s latest cry." C/U of woman with a very ornate hairstyle incorporating kiss curls which are painted with some kind of hair colouring. The woman turns to show the mass of highly lacquered curls at the back of her head. "Here’s a novelty for the children" M/S of young girl having her hair cut - she is sitting in a model boat. M/S of another girl (or possibly the same one) having her hair cut sitting inside a model car.
