Summary
NoS Summary - Bathing belles at the Serpentine Lido and at Hornsey open air baths.
British Pathe synopsis: "Wherever one goes today, the problem of the bathing girl looms largely in the public eye. Warm weather always beats Mrs Grundy - especially on London’s Lido." Panning shot of large number of people enjoying the sun at a Lido. Closer view of the young people lounging around. The picture is packed with bathers. M/S of people sitting on the edge of the pool. They paddle and dive. Various shots of swimmers enjoying the water. Some lark around. M/S of girl walking away from the camera on the diving board. Various shots of the girl diving in. A couple of girls skip together. Cameraman focuses on the side of a girls costume which has holes in it. As the cameraman moves up the girls body, a boy sitting next to her puts his fingers in the holes. She wriggles as he tickles her. C/U of a little girl paddling at the edge of the pool. "And this caps all, (it’s the very latest for Eve)." Camera tilts up the body of a woman wearing a skin tight swimsuit and swimming hat. C/U of her taking off the swimming cap. This is presumably the Lido beside the Serpentine in Regent’s Park. "From the Lido to Hornsey is just a jump, but visibility is just as good, as the Meteorologists might say." An outdoor pool. Lots of people swim in the pool. Low angle shot of group of girls sitting on the fountain. Camera tilts down to show their legs. A group of young people have a game of leapfrog. C/U of a woman looking into a compact mirror and powdering her nose. "Students of form are not confined to racecourses -" Panning shot of some girls sitting amongst foliage smoking. Camera pans along their backs as they are lying on their tummies. They laugh.
