Summary
British Pathe synopsis: "And as it came, Nellie the Elephant at Belle Vue, Manchester, got caught in the spring-cleaning fever." M/S of a keeper walking towards the camera followed by an elephant. The man with the elephant wears a fez and Middle Eastern baggy white trousers and shirt. He hits the elephant with a stick. A group of bathing belles in swimsuits push along a barrel filled with water on a cart. Various shots of the fun and games which ensue when the girls give Nellie a bath. Two of the girls climb on the elephant’s back as the others throw water. "Scrubbing her down in the way that Mother taught them - " A yard brush is used to scrub the elephant. C/U of the two girls sitting on the elephant’s back. They use small hand brushes to scrub the skin. C/U of one of the girls filing the elephant’s nails. M/S and L/S of water being thrown on the elephant and brushes being used. Some of the Belle Vue buildings are visible in the background, and a roller coaster. "With Nellie giving a helping hand (or trunk)." The elephant splashes around in the mud with her trunk. (The keeper’s white clothes are covered with mud.) The elephant kneels down and the girls climb off. "Who won?" M/S of the girls standing in front of the elephant covered in mud.
