Summary
NoS Summary - fashions are modelled at the Cafe de Paris using revolving stage.
British Pathe synopsis: "Filmed at the Cafe de Paris, London". "Beautiful gowns - dreamy music and stately mannequins, gliding into the picture - the big London Dress Parades are on - " Woman in a glamorous frock walks down the stairs of the club onto the dance floor then poses against a large black disc. The disc revolves so that the audience can see the frock. As it turns, another model is revealed behind. Two particularly striking "Hartnell" models - " We see the band play as the floor revolves displaying other outfits. The girls seem to move their feet to propel the disc around. They then walk back up the stairs. Various outfits are shown. L/S of the crowd in a balcony area, some watch the show, others don’t. This gives us a good view of the ceiling, lighting and general decor of the club. More outfits are displayed including a nice fur trimmed satin dress and cape. "Behind the scenes, all is hustle, frocks have to be changed in lightning time, and the mannequins prepared for their next creations - " In the changing room a woman takes off her top. Another frock is modelled. Cut back to the dressing room where the model is putting another dress on over her head. One of the models on the revolving stage seems to be having problems with her dress getting caught. Back in the changing rooms one of the models smokes, one makes-up and another puts a scarf around her neck. C/U of one of the girls at a dressing table. Several wine glasses are on the table. She powders her nose and smokes. "In front, the grand Parade continues - no semblance here of the haste that goes on behind the dressing room doors - " A model poses with a large fan. Evening gowns are modelled, then a wedding dress with a long train. Another model holds the train up to prevent it catching in the turning stage.
