British Pathe synopsis: Film about women anglers, rowers and cross country runners. First shot is a C/U of a postcard which reads: "Dear Mary, Just landed Brighton - having quiet time on the Pier. Love Jean." Postcard is addressed to Miss M Willer, 310 Green Road, Chatsworth. C/U of young woman sitting in a deck chair fishing over the side of the pier and reading her paper. M/S of another woman fishing from the pier. She is wrapped up against the cold in a fur trimmed overcoat. She casts her line. M/S of another woman fishing. An elderly woman sits beside her holding a cat in her lap. C/U of another postcard which reads: "Dear Bill, Angling is great fun - wish you were here - then we could sling our hook together - Best wishes, Jean." Card is addressed to Mr W.A. Backer, Hertford Mansions, W1. A group of women have a picnic on the pier. C/U of a woman munching on a sandwich as she reels in her line. Third postcard reads: "Annie Dear, Still busy on the line - wonder what the worm thinks about it!" Love J." Mrs A. Dear lives at 11, Welwyn Terrace EC2. Another fur coated woman fishes from the pier. C/U of her hands as she fixes a worm to the hook. She shakes her fingers as if a bit disgusted by the thought of what she has just done! "Dear Fred, Not much of a catch today. Harry Preston seems to have landed the best. Yours to a Cinder. Jean." To Mr F.A. Shepherd, 116 Chiswick Road, Chiswick. Another woman fishes off the side of the pier. She brings in a smallish fish. M/S of her laying out her catch for the camera. L/S of the pier - lots of people fishing in silhouette. "Dear Mam, Decided fishing too tame - going to try rowing. Love Jennie." - this addressed to Mrs Moore of Morely House, Myrthe Terrace, Clapham. Four girls walk arm in arm in a park, one of the girls has a small dog on a lead. The girls come close to the camera - they smile. L/S of girls rowing on the river - two boats in competition. The P.S. on a postcard is highlighted: "P.S. Getting stronger every minute - can now pull up a river! J." More shots of the girls rowing in fours. View of the two boats from another. On the river bank the girls carry their boats. They turn them upside down and a carry boats and blades past the camera. "Dear Bill, Here I am again - this time it’s a cross-country race. Fondest, Jean." L/S of large group of girls in black shorts and various light tops running towards camera. We see them run past in slow motion. The girls clamber over a fence. "Dear Sis, got mixed up with a "slow camera" today - just the thing to slow down fast ladies! Yours till the camera freezes. Jennie. P.S. Tell Ma returning (D.V.) Monday, but in any case Tuesday." L/S of girls jumping over large tree trunk, seen in slow motion. We see them falling over each other down a steep bank.
