Summary
NoS synopsis: Animation by Joe Noble. L/S of the animator standing at an easel painting a cartoon. He holds his head as if looking for inspiration. Sausage (a dog) says to Sammy in a speech bubble: "The Guv’nor looks bad." they both look through telescopes. Joe is seeing spots before his eyes. Sammy says: "It’s the hustle of the Modern Times." Sausage suggests: "Take a holiday with us... in the past." He throws him a book to read. He opens it and reads: "Excursions - feeling tired or worn out? Take a holiday in the past. Step up on the Easel." Joe has a think: "On the Easel eh! Shall I risk it?" He decides to go for it and steps up, saying to Sausage: "Lead on Macduff." A grumpy moustachioed man appears wearing a hat which reads: "Inspector". He looks daggers at Joe (literally! Animated daggers come out of his eyes towards our artist!) He paws the ground with his foot. He says to Joe: "You can’t wear those clothes - you’ll make me lose my temper!" "Can’t you read?" Joe looks at a sign which reads: "The Magic Line. Passengers from the present to the peaceful past must first change at the Magic Line." Joe walks towards a black vertical line with the words: "All Change" above it which change to "Past" and "Present". Joe’s hesitates before jumping through the line. On the other side he is dressed in antiquated clothes - top hat, tail coat etc. He looks at his clothes. C/U of Joe in his new clothes looking quite pleased with himself. He pulls out a dusty handkerchief and notices that there is a date on it - 1837. A man with an oil can in his hand shouts "All Aboard!" as he stands behind a locomotive engine. Joe climbs in and waves his hat at the audience. After some funny business with a chimney sweep brush and a dog popping out of the train’s steam funnel, there is a intertitle which reads: "And they’ll be travelling into the Past like this until next week!" Sammy, Sausage and Joe travel along in the steam train.
