Summary
British Pathe synopsis: Animation and live action. Joe Noble the cartoonist stands by an easel. He has a large portfolio beside him labelled "Sketches". He puts his foot up on a chair and scratches his head. Little zig zag animated thought beams come out of his head, then a speech bubble which reads: "Idea". This turns into a mallet, an animated arm hits him on the head with the mallet. He looks surprised then holds up his finger. He goes to his sketches and lifts them onto the table. He pulls out a piece of paper. He puts on a hat which has a large tassel attached. This keeps getting in the way as he tries to sketch something. He draws a cartoon boy who we recognise as Sammy. A line drawing grows and turns into his cartoon dog buddy Sausage. They shake hands. Funny business ensues. We see Joe Noble holding up the piece of paper and the two characters are animated on this space as Joe watches. The two have a bit of a fight. Sausage says: "Come on, Mickey Walker" as they both put up their dukes. There is a C/U of a real hand knocking on a real door. Joe turns around. A woman dressed as a maid comes through the door holding a tray. Joe jumps up. He takes a letter off the tray. The maid (who holds a large black feather duster) goes over to the easel. C/U of Joe looking at his letter. He talks to the maid then gets annoyed by the fact that the word "NO" comes up on the piece of paper. He puts the piece of paper back in his portfolio. He then speaks to the maid again. She goes over to his desk and tidies his papers. She dusts the table - C/U. The camera pans down to show the Sketches portfolio - and the maid’s stockinged legs. C/U of the maid looking shocked. Shot of her short skirt moving around and her vain attempt to hold it down. The front of the portfolio falls down to show Sausage using a pair of bellows to pump air up the maid’s skirt! Sammy stands beside him laughing. We see quite a lot of her knickers and stocking tops. Cut to a L/S of the maid trying in vain to hold her skirt down as she swirls around. She picks up her feather duster and runs off - Sammy and Sausage shake hands.
