Summary

NoS Summary - Jewellery is made from elephant tusks and hair.
British Pathe synopsis: Woman stands holding a large elephant’s tusk. It is almost as tall as the woman herself. Another woman holds two bizarre unidentified items - presumably bits of elephant’s body. "Elephant hair is about the thickest and strongest hair on earth". Woman holds the piece of skin with large hairs sticking out of it. She pulls a few hairs out. M/S of three women sitting at a bench sorting through the elephant hair. C/U of woman pulling hairs out one by one. "Strange to say, whalebone strongly resembles elephant hair - but it has not its strength and splits easily - " C/U of woman holding whalebone and pulling pieces off. "The longer hairs are braided with gold wire for bracelets - " C/U of woman weaving hairs together. C/U of several woven strips held in hand. "Fore and aft Jewellery. - (Tusk and tail!)" Woman makes bangles out of ivory and elephant hair. C/U of woman holding four bangles. "And short hairs help to make up those fancy rings - " C/U of woman working on rings with a round tool. C/U of a pile of rings with labels attached. "Bracelet or anklet - as you wish." C/U of a woman threading an anklet around her ankle. C/U of woman’s wrist with a bracelet twined around it. C/U of another woman’s hand with bracelets.
