NoS Summary - A peek into the evening’s entertainment at the Cosmo Club - dancing and performers.
British Pathe synopsis: "The snappy Jazz band of today has dethroned Pan and plays the tunes that set our feet moving - " C/U of dancing feet. M/S of legs and feet on the dance floor. M/S of couples dancing. M/S of the band - tuba, saxophone and clarinet players. We also see the drummer, violinist and banjo player. They are all smiling, having a good time. Low shot of dancing feet. Looks like they are doing the Charleston. "Amidst the merry throng we caught sight of Billy Bennett ("Almost a Gentleman") having a word with the Manager" Billy and his partner are asked to leave the dance floor by the manager. "Can’t dance? said Billy.. Can’t I? - Watch!" L/S of Billy dancing alone on the dance floor whilst diners sit at tables and watch. He does a humorous dance which ends in him falling over. "Our old friends Nervo & Knox - " C/U of one of the duo wearing a leopard skin tunic, the other stands on his shoulders. "- looked quite different when we saw them here" They walk onto the dance floor in suits. One of the duo slides around on the dance floor doing the splits. "Dainty little "Eda" the Idol of the last Command Performance, obliged with a Charleston - " A young girl (about 10 or 11 years old) does a crazy Charleston. "On the left here is Debroy Somers watching his protégée - " C/U of a group around a table. Man in dinner suit applauds and the women smile. "Our Camera was just in time to catch a glimpse of that famous "Apache" pair Dorothy Ward and Shaun Glenville - " M/S of Dorothy and Shaun sitting at a table beside the dance floor. A waiter serves them champagne. "Louis and Olivette showed us their newest steps - " The two perform an exhibition dance incorporating acrobatic lifts and turns. C/U of table of people applauding. "Every woman wants that boyish form. Try this said The Austins, "it’s an infallible remedy - " A woman stands on another woman’s hips and bends over backwards. "The Chef - and the Waiter. (Otherwise Budd and Hartley, who served up 57 varieties of steps.)" A comedy duo do a silly dance dressed as a chef and waiter. "At another table comedy was represented by Harry Green (left) and the Drama by Bernard Nedell (centre) of "Broadway" fame." M/S of a table of bright young things. "What shall it profit a man if he gaineth the whole world - he could never get a figure like this - " Balletic dance by a young woman who dances on her toes. "The Cosmo Five obliged - " Five women dance, they wear big white wigs and nice stripy costumes. "Les Dorians also" An exhibition dance is performed - the man pulls the girl’s ballet skirt off. Lifts and throws follow. "In fact they all came on - " M/S of all the performers holding hands skipping past the camera. They all dance past, the last being a young boy in a bell boy outfit.
