Summary
Pathe marketing synopsis: At first glance it is difficult to credit the rough tortoise with such a fine shell for "combing out". The first operation is selecting the best pieces and marking and cutting out the patterns, after which the rough surface has to be scraped and sand-papered. The comb then has a bath in hot brine to soften the shell, which is then bent to the shape required, and is finally polished.
Pathe Intertitles - "At first glance it is difficult to credit the rough tortoise with such a fine shell for "combing out" -"
""The yellow shell underneath is the most valuable," said Mr. Garbe."
"Selecting the best pieces and marking and cutting out the pattern is the first job - (the pattern used here was designed over a century ago.)"
"The rough surface has now to be scraped and sand-papered."
"No self-respecting comb ever liked this bath - it’s hot brine! (to soften the shell)"
"And finally -"
